Our Plans
Our aim for Crown A Cattle is to maintain a rigid breeding program that is directed by our 'Breed Objectives' and 'Points of Difference'.
We believe the fundamental mistake that many breeds have succumbed to, is chasing too much muscle expression. Nature’s biggest lesson to all of us is that ‘extremes’ tend to create problems.
Bulls must display masculinity and cows and heifers must be feminine.
We do not have registered cattle, our breed is a commercial breed, for commercial cattle producers. Our cattle will not be shown as led show cattle. Unfortunately showing is often the downfall of breeds and animals. 'Crown A Cattle' will however compete in multi-breed competitions, such as Feedlot and Carcass competitions, Led Steer and commercial cattle events. This will ensure that we stay industry focused, in every sense of the word. We do however measure some traits, when observed, that we believe are important and highly heritable. These traits include Days to Calving, Birth Weight, Scrotal Circumference, Semen Morphology, and Weight Gain.
We already supply bulls to commercial beef producers in Queensland, all of whom have been repeat buyers.
Presently we predominantly have F1 bulls with F1 cows. We also have a small number of F2 heifers in calf to F2 bulls. These F3 progeny are very pleasing.
Our plans are to continue this pattern of breeding, upgrading to at least an F5. From there our breed type should be stabilised. We will keep introducing F1s, through our original plan of Angus Bull over Droughtmaster Cow. These progeny will enter into our closed herd as we progress. This gives us access to widening our genetic pool, while maintaining the fundamental requirements of our breeding goals.
Our plan is to build a sustainable pool of 'Crown A Cattle' seedstock to supply our existing and future commercial clients.
We encourage cattle producers to come on this journey with us.
